About Murcia as a Region of Spain

The Region of Murcia

Santa Maria Church in Murcia

Not so long ago, Murcia was a largely unknown and neglected region of Southeast Spain. However, with the interest shown by local authorities and property developers like Polaris World, the region will soon have an airport of its own to cater to the immense demand for real estate and property investors in Murcia.

Murcia is one of the most picturesque regions of Spain, with mostly sunny days throughout the year. A pleasant climate with annual temperatures hovering around 21º C, and 250 km of shoreline along the two seas – the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean. Murcia is a region of great contrasts. The entire area is dotted with mountainous national parks, southern basins with steppe landscapes, and wonderful beaches at La Manga, Mazarrón and Calblanque.

One of the major attractions of Murcia is its coastline which includes pristine beaches, gentle coves, dunes, salt flats, wetlands, Natural Reserves, etc. The region also has a rich history to boast of, which is depicted with highly representative buildings such as the Cathedral and the Casino in the capital, the Roman Theatre in Cartagena, and the medieval castles of Lorca and Mula. With 30 museums, 22 castles, and remains of fortresses all over the area - this is evidence to the fact that the region has an intrigue factor to go with its natural charm and beauty.

With Polaris World Golf Resorts in Murcia, the growth rate of the region has been put on the highest possible pedestal. Still growing, Murcia is a pleasant blend of traditionalism with a touch of modernity and a high-class living experience you can hardly afford to miss.

The Costa Calida

Known by the name of Costa Calida, that means Warm Coast in Spanish, the Murcia Region coastline stretches for over 250 kilometres, where two different seas meet on one single coast, the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean. Breathtaking cliffs, deserted paradise beaches with white sand that goes on for ever, fun nightlife in the ports and unspoilt bays with mirror like seawater.

Many of these areas form part of the network of protected Natural Parks of this region.

As a natural geographic accident, there is the astonishing La Manga area, a coastal strip of land of 170 square kms that closes off the Mar Menor lake and seperates it from the Mediterranean sea, so that the two are only communicated by small channels of small streams. The Mar Menor has incredibly warm waters that since time immemorial have been renowned for their benefits to health.

There are also natural ecological delights here like the Sand Dunes at San Pedro del Pinatar or the natural parkland and beaches of Calbanque.
